Mindanao is the second largest island in the Philippines made up of six different regions. Apart from numerous ethnic tribes’ cultures and traditions, Mindanao is also known for its untouched natural tourist sites. In Cateel, Davao Oriental lies a mesmerizing wonder of nature waiting to be explored by you—Aliwagwag Falls.

Aliwagwag Falls charms and fascinates tourists not only because of its cool running waters but because of its unique staircase-like appearance, with multiple mini falls flowing and situated on top of each other. This picturesque 84-tiered falls with more than 130 cascades stands at 1,110 feet, making it the highest waterfall in the Philippines. It truly stood out for its kind as a towering piece of nature. Local folklore says that this falls was a gift from the gods to the Mandaya tribe of Cateel. The tribe considers this as the source of their living and their fountain of life.

The local government developed the Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park and is charging tourists a minimal entrance fee for the park’s maintenance. This park is for those who want not only to glimpse the staircase-like waterfalls but also to experience outdoor activities which they offer at a budget-friendly price.
